The King’s Gambit is a chess opening that I have long been fascinated by. World Champion Boris Spassky played it throughout his career and never lost, so I figured I’d start with his games in my journey to understand this fascinating piece of chess theory. In 1960 Spassky famously beat Bobby Fischer with the King’s Gambit, which spurred Fischer to write his famous article “a bust to the King’s Gambit” in where he shared analysis that was so convincing, that most players simply dropped the KG from their repertoire. But not Spassky!
